Example: check the payment for "Down payment on order VS-2208" against the invoice it settles: the invoice number, the amount received and any balance still owed.
Record the payment

Send the receipt
Send the receipt to the customer and mark the invoice as paid; if a balance remains, keep the invoice open for it.
A buyer who orders a car usually pays something at signing: a down payment that holds the vehicle, perhaps accessories ordered with it, and a documentation fee. Weeks can pass before delivery, and finance may still be pending, so the receipt has to tie the money to one vehicle and one price. This template names the order, keeps accessories and fees apart from the down payment, and leaves room for the refund terms both sides agreed.

Frequently asked questions
The buyer is trading in their old car. Does that go on this receipt?
Not as money received. Write the trade-in vehicle, its registration and the agreed allowance in the notes; the allowance is credited on the final invoice alongside this down payment.
What happens to the down payment if the finance is declined?
Whatever the order form says; write the same rule on the receipt. Many dealers refund it in that case, but only the terms both sides signed decide it.
How is the sales tax worked out on this receipt?
The worked example above uses an example rate of 8%: $277.60 on a net amount of $3,470.00, for a total of $3,747.60. The editor recalculates all three when you change a quantity, a price or the country.
Is a receipt the same as an invoice?
No. An invoice asks for payment; a receipt confirms a payment you have received. Issue it after the money arrives, quote the invoice number it settles, and show any balance still owed.
How is the document numbered?
QuoteBill gives each new document a unique number of its own. A member can switch to numbers in sequence in settings, such as REC-2026-0001: one sequence for each kind of document, starting again every calendar year. A number you type yourself is kept as it is.
