Preparation guide
Example workflow
Confirm scope and quantities
Example: start with "Floor preparation: levelling compound, per m²", confirm the required quantity and client inputs, then agree completion criteria for each item.
Review and approve the quotation
Confirm acceptance evidence for "Cuts, trims and silicone to edges, per metre", all line quantities, exclusions and quote validity with the customer, and retain the approved version.
Deliver and prepare billing
Confirm completed quantities, site photos, agreed test results and any remaining remedial work. When the agreed milestone is complete, prepare an invoice using actual quantities and approved changes.
Tiling quotes are often compared per square metre, yet that figure hides very different jobs. Large-format floor tiles need a flatter base than small ones, a herringbone pattern takes longer than a straight lay, and every edge needs a trim or a sealant joint. This template keeps preparation, floor tiling, wall tiling and edge details on their own lines, so the client can see why a quote with a low tiling rate may not be the cheaper one in the end.
Fields to prepare
- Deliverables and line items
- Floor preparation: levelling compound, per m², Large-format floor tiling, per m², Wall tiling, per m², Cuts, trims and silicone to edges, per metre: specify the planned quantity and delivery scope for each item.
- Floor preparation: levelling compound, per m²
- Say how flat the floor is now and how much levelling it needs; large tiles show every dip.
- Large-format floor tiling, per m²
- Give tile size and pattern, the adhesive and grout colour, and whether you or the client supply the tiles.
- Wall tiling, per m²
- Measure walls net of windows and doors, and say whether old tiles come off first or are tiled over where suitable.
- Cuts, trims and silicone to edges, per metre
- Count the metres of trim and silicone at baths, worktops and floor edges; they are slow to do well.
- Site and measured quantities
- Record the site, work zones, areas, lengths or counts, and access hours.
- Materials and work stages
- Specify materials, labor, removal, disposal and making-good allowances, and completion criteria for each stage.
- Scope to agree
- Price preparation, floor and wall tiling apart, say whether the client supplies the tiles, and name the size and laying pattern, which change the labour.

Frequently asked questions
How do I quote when the client buys the tiles?
Price labour, adhesive and grout only, and state the extra quantity you advise ordering for cuts and breakages. Note that time lost to short or wrong deliveries is charged at a day rate.
What if the floor needs more levelling than expected?
Base the quotation on a stated thickness of levelling compound and give a rate for each extra millimetre per square metre, applied once the old covering is up and the floor can be checked.
How is the sales tax worked out on this quotation?
The worked example above uses an example rate of 8%: $169.44 on a net amount of $2,118.00, for a total of $2,287.44. The editor recalculates all three when you change a quantity, a price or the country.
Can I download it as Excel, Word or PDF?
Yes. A PDF needs no account: fill in the template and use Print / PDF. The Excel and Word files download from this page with a free account, and the spreadsheet keeps its formulas, so changing a quantity updates the tax and the total.
Can I add my logo and signature?
Yes. The From section of the editor has a place for your company logo and for a signature or seal image. Uploading a picture needs a free account, and a member can keep both in settings so that every new document starts with them.
