Home battery storage quotation template
Home battery storage quotation template: usable kWh, inverter, installation, monitoring and grid notification, with backup behaviour stated plainly.

Templates by industry
- Battery modules, usable capacity per kWh
- Hybrid inverter or battery inverter
- Installation, cabling and isolators
- Energy meter and monitoring set-up
- Grid operator notification and commissioning
Preparation guide
Example workflow
Confirm scope and quantities
Example: start with "Battery modules, usable capacity per kWh", confirm the required quantity and client inputs, then agree completion criteria for each item.
Review and approve the quotation
Confirm acceptance evidence for "Grid operator notification and commissioning", all line quantities, exclusions and quote validity with the customer, and retain the approved version.
Deliver and prepare billing
Confirm completed quantities, site photos, agreed test results and any remaining remedial work. When the agreed milestone is complete, prepare an invoice using actual quantities and approved changes.
A home battery quotation is usually read by someone who already has solar panels and wants to use more of their own electricity in the evening. What they need to see is the usable capacity, whether the existing inverter stays or is replaced, where the battery is mounted and whether anything keeps running in a power cut. This template prices the modules per kWh and puts the inverter, installation, metering and grid paperwork on lines of their own.
Fields to prepare
- Deliverables and line items
- Battery modules, usable capacity per kWh, Hybrid inverter or battery inverter, Installation, cabling and isolators, Energy meter and monitoring set-up, Grid operator notification and commissioning: specify the planned quantity and delivery scope for each item.
- Battery modules, usable capacity per kWh
- Quote usable kWh and the manufacturer’s model; nominal capacity looks larger but is not what the client can draw on.
- Hybrid inverter or battery inverter
- Say whether the current solar inverter stays, is replaced by a hybrid unit, or a separate battery inverter is added.
- Installation, cabling and isolators
- Give the mounting location, cable route and any clearances the manufacturer asks for, so nothing surprises anyone on the day.
- Energy meter and monitoring set-up
- Describe what the client will see in the app or on the display, and whether it needs an internet connection.
- Grid operator notification and commissioning
- State who notifies the grid operator and that the battery is switched on only after that step is done.
- Site and measured quantities
- Record the site, work zones, areas, lengths or counts, and access hours.
- Materials and work stages
- Specify materials, labor, removal, disposal and making-good allowances, and completion criteria for each stage.
- Scope to agree
- Quote usable rather than nominal capacity, say whether the battery works with the existing solar inverter, and state plainly what it does in a power cut.
Before sending
- Does “Battery modules, usable capacity per kWh” say what is included and what quantity the price assumes?
- Would the customer read “Hybrid inverter or battery inverter” the way you do, including what it leaves out?
- Can you still honour the price of “Installation, cabling and isolators” on the last day the quotation is valid?
Show 5 more
- Does “Energy meter and monitoring set-up” say what is included and what quantity the price assumes?
- Would the customer read “Grid operator notification and commissioning” the way you do, including what it leaves out?
- Agree how quantity changes following measurement or drawing revisions will be approved.
- Confirm client-supplied materials and work that other contractors must finish first.
- Check quote validity, the customer approval method and payment milestones.
Worked example: a 10 kWh battery for an existing solar system
The figures are an example in dollars, with an example tax rate of 8%. An installer quotes ten kWh of usable capacity, a hybrid inverter, installation, monitoring and the grid paperwork.
| Item | Quantity × unit price | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Battery modules, usable capacity per kWh | 10 × $520.00 | $5,200.00 |
| Hybrid inverter or battery inverter | 1 × $1,900.00 | $1,900.00 |
| Installation, cabling and isolators | 1 × $1,350.00 | $1,350.00 |
| Energy meter and monitoring set-up | 1 × $380.00 | $380.00 |
| Grid operator notification and commissioning | 1 × $450.00 | $450.00 |
| Subtotal | $9,280.00 | |
| Sales tax (8%) | $742.40 | |
| Total | $10,022.40 | |
Before tax the lines total $9,280.00; tax at 8% is $742.40, so the client is quoted $10,022.40. Each extra kWh would cost the module rate shown on the first line.
Mistakes on battery storage quotations
- Quoting nominal capacity, which the client cannot fully use.
- Implying backup power that the chosen inverter cannot deliver.
- Assuming the existing solar inverter will work with the battery without checking.
- Leaving the grid notification unassigned, so the system sits switched off for weeks.
- Ignoring the clearances the manufacturer specifies for the mounting location.
What the document must show
These details make a quotation easier to approve and to file.
- Your business name, address and registration or tax number
- The customer's name and address
- Issue date and a document number you do not reuse
- Each line item with quantity, unit price and amount
- Tax shown separately from the net amount, and the total payable
- Payment terms: due date, bank details or accepted payment methods
The sales tax depends on where the work is supplied, so set the rate that applies to your customer before sending.

Frequently asked questions
Does the quotation need to say what happens in a power cut?
Yes, because many clients assume a battery means backup. Say plainly whether the system supplies selected circuits, the whole house or nothing during a cut, and price any backup switch or separate circuit board as its own line.
How should I quote if the client may add capacity later?
Name the maximum number of modules the system accepts and today’s price per extra module, valid until the quotation’s date. Avoid promising that the same model will still be on sale in a few years.
What should the quotation say about warranty?
Give the manufacturer’s warranty in the manufacturer’s own terms, such as years or cycles, and your workmanship guarantee separately. Combining them into one promise makes you answer for something you do not control.
Who pays if the grid operator asks for changes?
Note that the price assumes the connection is accepted as designed. If the operator asks for an export limit, a meter change or other work, that is priced separately once their answer arrives.
How is tax calculated on this template?
The sales tax depends on where the work is supplied, so set the rate that applies to your customer before sending. The editor keeps the net amount, the tax and the total apart, and recalculates all three when you change a quantity, a unit price or the country setting.
How is the document numbered?
QuoteBill gives each new document a unique number of its own. A member can switch to numbers in sequence in settings, such as QUO-2026-0001: one sequence for each kind of document, starting again every calendar year. A number you type yourself is kept as it is.
