Preparation guide

Example workflow

  1. Confirm scope and quantities

Example: reconcile the approval and work record for "Behaviour consultation at home, 90 minutes" to establish the quantity for this invoice.

  2. Record delivery and acceptance

Check completion for every line, including "Written training plan and progress notes". Confirm completed services and quantities with the customer and retain the handover record.

  3. Send the billing record

Send the final charges, delivery reference and due date to the customer, then reconcile payment against the invoice number.

Dog trainers sell three different things: a consultation that works out why a dog behaves as it does, hands-on sessions that change it, and group classes where puppies learn alongside others. Owners often book a mix and later want to see what each part cost. This template keeps consultation, private sessions, the group course and the written plan apart, and leaves the notes for the dog’s name, the behaviour worked on and any follow-up support by message.

Frequently asked questions

Should the invoice promise a result?

No. Behaviour depends on the dog and on practice at home, so describe the work done and the plan rather than an outcome. If your terms include a follow-up visit, mention it in the notes.

How do I invoice a course paid in advance?

Issue the invoice when the place is booked and show the course dates. If the owner later moves to another course, credit the unused weeks or note the transfer, as your terms allow.

How is the sales tax worked out on this invoice?

The worked example above uses an example rate of 8%: $42.80 on a net amount of $535.00, for a total of $577.80. The editor recalculates all three when you change a quantity, a price or the country.

How should I number invoices?

Use one unbroken sequence per business, never reuse a number, and issue a credit note rather than deleting an invoice you have already sent.

Can I use it in another language or currency?

Yes. The document language can be set to any of 33 languages, and changing the country setting updates the currency, the date format and the tax rate.
