Preparation guide

Example workflow

  1. Confirm scope and quantities

Example: start with "Remove existing siding and dispose", confirm the required quantity and client inputs, then agree completion criteria for each item.

  2. Review and approve the quotation

Confirm acceptance evidence for "Trim, corners and soffit", all line quantities, exclusions and quote validity with the customer, and retain the approved version.

  3. Deliver and prepare billing

Confirm completed quantities, site photos, agreed test results and any remaining remedial work. When the agreed milestone is complete, prepare an invoice using actual quantities and approved changes.

A siding estimate covers the outer skin of a house: taking off what is there, a weather barrier, the new panels and the trim around windows, corners and eaves. The square metres decide most of the price, so the estimate should show how they were measured and which product they assume. This template keeps the wrap, the panels and the trim apart, which helps when the client weighs vinyl against fibre cement or another colour range.

Fields to prepare

Deliverables and line items
Remove existing siding and dispose, House wrap and flashing, Vinyl or fibre cement siding, per m², Trim, corners and soffit: specify the planned quantity and delivery scope for each item.
Remove existing siding and dispose
Say how many layers come off and whether older paint or materials are tested for hazards before work starts.
House wrap and flashing
Name the wrap and the flashing at windows and doors; these keep water out more than the siding itself does.
Vinyl or fibre cement siding, per m²
Give product line, profile and colour, plus the wall area net of openings and the waste allowance you added.
Trim, corners and soffit
Say whether trim and soffit are priced by length or as a lump sum, and their colour if it differs from the panels.
Site and measured quantities
Record the site, work zones, areas, lengths or counts, and access hours.
Materials and work stages
Specify materials, labor, removal, disposal and making-good allowances, and completion criteria for each stage.
Scope to agree
Measure the wall area net of openings, name the product line and colour, and say what happens to rotten sheathing found under the old cladding.

Frequently asked questions

What if the sheathing under the old siding is rotten?

Exclude hidden damage in the notes and give a rate per sheet for replacing damaged sheathing. The client can then approve repairs on the spot instead of the crew waiting for a new estimate.

Does the time of year matter for this estimate?

It can. Some products should not be installed below a minimum temperature set by their manufacturer, so if the work may fall in cold weather, say that the start date follows the product’s installation instructions.

How is the sales tax worked out on this quotation?

The worked example above uses an example rate of 8%: $848.80 on a net amount of $10,610.00, for a total of $11,458.80. The editor recalculates all three when you change a quantity, a price or the country.

Can I add my logo and signature?

Yes. The From section of the editor has a place for your company logo and for a signature or seal image. Uploading a picture needs a free account, and a member can keep both in settings so that every new document starts with them.

Can I change the layout and colour?

Yes. The editor offers other layouts and a document colour for the printed page. Changing them moves no figure: the lines and totals stay as they are, and the PDF, Word and Excel files follow the layout you pick.
