Use QuoteBill in ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini

Connect QuoteBill to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini in about three minutes, then ask for quotations and invoices in plain words. Setup steps, example requests and privacy.

What your AI can do once QuoteBill is connected

On its own, an AI assistant can write a quotation that looks right but adds up wrong, or quote a tax rate from memory. Connected to QuoteBill, it uses QuoteBill’s 133 templates, totals the lines with the editor’s own arithmetic and applies the published tax rate for 195 countries, each with its source. You get back a link that opens the finished document, filled in.

The connection uses MCP, the Model Context Protocol: an open standard that lets AI apps use other services as tools. You add one address to your AI app, once. No QuoteBill account or password is involved.

Before you start

Setting up takes about three minutes, and you need only three things.

  • The QuoteBill connection address: https://quotebill.com/mcp
  • An AI app that accepts your own connector: Claude, ChatGPT on the web, or a developer tool such as Gemini CLI or Claude Code.
  • Nothing else. A free QuoteBill account helps only later, to edit a draft and save it as a PDF.

Connect Claude

On claude.ai, open Settings, then Connectors. Choose Add custom connector, name it QuoteBill, paste the connection address as the URL and add it. No sign-in is needed.

In a new chat, check in the tools menu that QuoteBill is on; it also appears in the Claude desktop and mobile apps. If the option is missing, your plan may not allow custom connectors yet.

Connect ChatGPT

ChatGPT adds apps it has not reviewed through developer mode, on chatgpt.com in a browser. Open Settings, find developer mode among the security settings and turn it on. The warning it shows is general; QuoteBill only reads public information and does arithmetic.

Then open the apps page, create an MCP app named QuoteBill, paste the connection address, set authentication to No authentication and create it. In a chat, add QuoteBill from the + menu before you ask.

Connect Gemini and developer tools

The Gemini web app accepts your own connections only in some countries so far. Gemini CLI and other developer tools take the same address anywhere.

  • Gemini CLI: in ~/.gemini/settings.json, add "quotebill": { "httpUrl": "https://quotebill.com/mcp" } under "mcpServers".
  • Claude Code: run claude mcp add --transport http quotebill https://quotebill.com/mcp
  • Codex: in ~/.codex/config.toml, add a [mcp_servers.quotebill] table whose url is the connection address.
  • Cursor and other MCP tools: add the address as a remote (HTTP) MCP server.

How to ask

Ask the way you would ask a colleague: who the document is for, what you are charging and in which country. Mention QuoteBill the first time so the AI uses it. For example:

  • “Make an invoice in QuoteBill for my client in Germany: 12 hours of consulting at €95 an hour, due in 14 days.”
  • “Find a QuoteBill template for a plumbing quotation and fill it in with these jobs.”
  • “Write this invoice in Japanese for my client, but open the page for me in English.”

What you get back, and what to check

The AI shows the subtotal, tax and total, and gives you a link. Open it and the document is waiting on QuoteBill with the client, items and dates filled in. Download it as Excel or Word at once, or sign in to edit it and save a PDF.

A published tax rate is a starting point, not advice: whether it applies depends on your registration and what you sell where. Where there is no single national rate, as in the United States, QuoteBill asks for yours instead of guessing.

What happens to your information

The QuoteBill connection only looks up templates and tax rules and does arithmetic. It saves nothing and keeps no client names or amounts. The draft travels inside the link, after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.

The link carries a checksum, so if the AI changes even one character, QuoteBill refuses to open the draft rather than show a wrong figure. What you type into the AI app itself follows that app’s privacy terms.

If something goes wrong

Most problems come from the AI app’s settings rather than the connection.

  • The AI answers without QuoteBill: mention QuoteBill and check the connector is on for this chat.
  • The draft will not open: the link was cut short or changed. Ask the AI to send it again, unchanged.
  • The page is in the wrong language: ask the AI to open QuoteBill in yours, apart from the document’s.
